I was delighted to recently join Jody Halsted on the Ireland Family Vacations podcast to chat about golf travel in Ireland – particularly the idea that some of the best golf trips aren’t always built around only the most famous (and most expensive) courses.
Don’t get me wrong, the marquee names absolutely deserve their reputation. Places like Royal County Down, Lahinch, Ballybunion and Old Head are world class experiences and rightly sit on many golfers’ bucket lists.
But very often, the trips people remember most are about much more than the headline courses.
Sometimes it’s the lesser-known links tucked away along the coast. Sometimes it’s the local pub after the round, a whiskey tasting in the evening, or a scenic drive through a part of Ireland they never expected to discover.
That balance is something we always try to build into journeys at Dunes & Drams.
Golf is often a key part of the trip – but rarely the full story. We believe the best experiences come from slowing the pace slightly, leaving room for local encounters, and experiencing Ireland beyond the fairways and by simply moving from one tee time to the next.
That’s a big part of what we discussed on the podcast, along with a few of our favourite courses and regions around the country.
Really enjoyed the conversation and grateful to Jody for the invitation.
